The protest was staged under the leadership of Rakesh Malli, the president of INTUC Dakshina Kannada. A protest march was organized from the Urwa Store Ground to the Mangalore Urban Development office.

Congress Leader Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the protest march and criticized the state government for its inability to keep its promises of free fertilizers and electricity to farmers. He alleged that the farmers have received only bullets in return for their precious votes. The state treasury is empty and the state government has not even been able to provide adequate electricity. The policies of the BJP, which are concerned with the setting up of large industries at the cost of the poor, are pushing the poor deeper into poverty, he said.

Suresh Ballal, Mohan P , Naveen D’souza, Harinath, Gulzar Banu, Mohammed Badrudin and many Congress leaders and members participated in the protest.
