Hike in bus fares, NH 66 toll gates

Feb 16, 2017: Speaking to media, Canara Bus Operators’ Association president Sadananda Chatra said the Operators’ Association has decided to hike the bus fare by Rs 3 due to the toll that is being collected from February 9 midnight.

He added that the burden would not be compelled on the passengers who are not crossing the toll gate. The bus fare from Udupi-Mangaluru is Rs 60 and it would be Rs 63 from February 17. The bus fare for the passengers travelling from Udupi-Kundapur would be Rs 43 henceforth from February 17, he added.

The collection of toll at Talapady on Karnataka - Kerala border, Sasthan and Hejmady in Udupi on the National Highway 66 is burning a hole in passengers’ pocket due to resultant hike in bus fares.

He said the buses are charged Rs 195 for single trip at Gundmi toll gate and Rs 160 at Hejmadi toll gate. He said the tax imposed on 48-seater buses is also increased from Rs 32,000 to Rs 49,500 annually.The price of diesel has gone all time high and currently, the
