Kerla, Sep 29, 2014: A late afternoon spell of heavy rain lashed Thiruvananthapuram and suburbs on September 28,  leading to traffic disruptions in many areas. With the south-west monsoon in its last phase  there has been heavy afternoon showers over the past couple of days. On Sept 28  a state highway connecting Thiruvananthapuram to many towns in the southern and central districts of the state. Weathermen categorise the four months between June 1 and September 30 as the southwest monsoon period.
