Felicitation programme held for new Congress-supported GP members

Bantwal, June 11:  MLA and President of DK District Congress Committee (DCC) said during a felicitation programme jointly organized by the Block Congress Committees of Bantwal, Vittal, and Panemangalore at Rangoli Auditorium BC Road on June 10 Thursday that the Congress-supported Gram Panchayat (GP) members must work for the welfare of the people throughout their terms. He also accused the JD(S) and the BJP of weakening the Beloor announcement that gives more power to GP members. 

Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, the chief guest, congratulated the elected GP members and declared that the results of the GP polls show that the people are tired of the BJP’s misrule. Expressing the need to strengthen the party booth-wise, he urged the Congress activists to prepare for the forthcoming zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat elections. 

Ashwini Kumar Rai, the KPCC member; Mamatha Gatti, the zilla panchayat member; A. C. Bhandary; Padmashekar Jain, M. S. Mohammed, and Chandrahas Karkera, the presidents of the Block Congress; party leaders Sudarshan Jain, K. Padmanabha Naringana, K. H. Abubakker, Jinaraj Ariga, S. Abbas, Sanjeev Poojary, B. K. Iddinabba, Sadashiv Ummer Fajeer, Flossy D’Souza, Naseema Hassan, Kanchalakshi, Kushala M. Peraje, and Mohammed Saleh were present on the occasion. 

A training programme for the new members of the GP were held from Thursday morning to Thursday afternoon. The resource persons were Thukaram Yekkar, Manju Vittal, and Sheena Shetty of Jana Shikshana Mangalore. They provided information regarding Right to Information Act, Panchayat Raj, and National Employment Guarantee Programme. 

Sorake and Rai felicitated all the new Congress-supported GP members by draping a shawl around their shoulders. M. S. Mohammed, the president of the Vittal Block Congress, made the welcome speech. Chandrahas Karkera, the president of the Panemangalore Block Congress, proposed the vote of thanks. Razak Kukkaje, the member of the Gram Panchayath, compered the programme.
