Errant builder absconding, police launch manhunt

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 11:  The Mangalore East police have launched a manhunt for Ganesh Shetty, who owns Apoorva Association, a construction company, following an arrest warrant issued by the DK District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum. So far, they have been unsuccessful in tracing the man.

The police say that the forum issued an arrest warrant on May 28, following his failure to respond to its order of October 15, 2009. The order stated that the builder had not provided a number of basic facilities at Apeksha Apartments on Warehouse Road, which he had constructed.

The 15 residents of the apartment lodged a complaint with the forum in 2009, alleging that Mr. Shetty had not provided a Deed of Declaration, door numbers, and legal occupancy and completion certificates from the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC). They alleged that the builder had charged them exorbitantly and hadn’t paid penalties for completing the building on time. The forum, in its 46-page judgment, found the builder to be guilty and issued an order.

The builder, however, chose to ignore the order and the complainants brought this to the notice of the forum through an execution petition. The forum, therefore, issued an arrest warrant on May 28, which was received by the Mangalore East police on June 3.

The police have been searching for Mr. Shetty since June 3. They have been given a deadline of June 16 to produce the man before the forum and are quite confident that they will meet the deadline.
