Mangaluru, Jan 16, 2018: Anti Pollution Drive (APD) Foundation, in association with Shree Gujarati English Medium School and Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd, celebrated eco-friendly Makara Sankranthi.

The programme was organised to show gratitude to Mother Earth, who has blessed us in abundance. It was carried out by going to houses in the locality and giving them a message about protecting the environment, which has provided us with everything without expecting anything in return.

Headmistress Ashwini Shenoy highlighted the significance of celebrating this auspicious day and distributing ‘til laddu’. It stands for ‘co-existence’ between plant, animal kingdom and the common man, and Mother Earth is asking for us to live and let live.

Later, students portrayed the theme in the form of a dance-drama. The students of the school also presented the Makara Sankranthi as is celebrated in different states through dance, which was choreographed by Neha Shenoy, GM-Operations – APD.

Corporator Prathibha Kulai spoke on the need for protecting the environment, while Kalpesh Khokanni, member of the school committee presided.

Students carried out a walk-a-thon and distributed til laddu, spreading environmental awareness. The students spread messages, representing Mother Earth’s request to stop polluting, with quotes such as ’Jiyo Aur Jeene Do’ and ’Baduki Badukalu Bidi’ (live and let live). Pollutants that harm the environment, such as making bonfires and using glass coated threads to fly kites, were not seen during the celebrations.
