Mangalore, Apr 5: Easter celebrations at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, began at 7:30 p.m. Fr. Nelson Pinto blessed the new fire, after which the Easter Candle was lit and carried by Deacon Prakash to the altar. Fr. Joe Tauro sang the Easter hymn--the Exultes. 

Five readings from the Bible gave listeners a glimpse into the story of salvation. The image of the risen Christ was unveiled to the tunes of the Gloria; and Fr. George Santhumayor incensed the image. 

In his sermon, Fr. Stephen Periera urged the faithful to believe in the resurrection of Jesus, which is essential for salvation. Saying that the joy and experience of the risen Christ cannot be kept a secret, he urged the faithful to share it with others and be witnesses to the risen Christ. 

Water was later blessed and the baptismal vows were renewed. The faithful had gathered for the Easter mass in great numbers.
