Udupi, May 31, 2012 : Dr. Eugene D’Souza has been appointed as the first principal of St. Lawrence Degree College in Moodubelle, the first of its kind in Udupi.

This arts and commerce college has already been approved by the state government and the Mangalore University and will begin functioning from June 14, 2012. The required infrastructure has been made ready and lecturers have already been appointed. Currently, the college is in the process of admitting its first batch of students.

Dr. Eugene D’Souza has been the head of the department of history in VPM’s K. G. Joshi College of Arts and N. G. Bedekar College of Commerce in Thane for the past 3 decades. He was also in-charge of the NCC (Navy) in the college for 22 years. Besides, he was a post graduate lecturer in R. K. Talreja College, Ulhasnagar for nearly 20 years and was in the department of history, Mumbai University for 10 years. He was also a member of the Board of Studies in History and Archaeology and the Academic Council. He served as a guide for research scholars in St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and helped four students get their PhD under the Mumbai University.

Dr. Eugene D’Souza has written several text books in history for graduate and undergraduate students of Mumbai University. He also wrote history course material for MA students. Just before he retired in Aug 2006, Dr. Eugene D’Souza was the principal of Asmita College of Arts and Commerce for Women in Vikhroli, East Mumbai for 18 months.

Dr. Eugene D’Souza wanted to spend his retirement writing, travelling, and taking photographs. He has written several travelogues and published his photos in daijiworld.com. Having moved to Moodubelle 3 years back, he started working as the media coordinator for Bellevision.com.

When the management of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions proposed a degree college in Moodubelle, Dr. Eugene D’Souza with his excellent experience in colleges in Mumbai was unanimously selected as the principal of the new college.
