Mangalore, June 21: Udupi at IMA Hall Brahmagiri on June 20, SunDr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital at Doddanagudde in Udupi inaugurated its comprehensive diabetic care centre of Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital at Doddanagudde inday at 9:30 a.m. in collaboration with IMA Charitable Trust Udupi. The organizers conducted free health check ups with blood sugar tests for several diabetics. 

The programme was inaugurated by Professor and Senior Physician of the Department of Medicine at KMC Manipal Dr. N. R. Rao. Managing Trustee of Dr. A. V. Baliga Charities, Mumbai Mr. U. R. Acharya presided over the programme. 

Dr. Shri Krishna Acharya, the endocrinologist; Dr. V. L. Nayak, the managing trustee of IMA Charitable Trust; Dr. H. Raghuram Nayak, physician at Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital, Udupi; and Dr. P. V. Bhandary, the director of Dr. A. V. Baliga Memorial Hospital Udupi participated in the programme. 

Dr. Virupaksha Devaramane, the consultant psychiatrist of Dr. A. V. Memorial Hospital Udupi, welcomed the gathering. Mrs. Prabha compered the programme; and Mr. Jeevan Lewis delivered the vote of thanks. 

A series of guest lectures from medical experts formed part of the programme. Dr. Shri Krishna Acharya spoke on the control of diabetes. Dr. Neeta, the ophthalmologist of KMC Manipal, spoke on the topic “Diabetes and Eye Care.” Prof. Anantha Nagappa Naik, HOD of MCOPS Manipal spoke on the topic “Living with Diabetes.” Mrs. Sally Jose demonstrated several diabetic diet recipes. 

Various informative stalls were set up, which contained comprehensive information about Diabetic diet and lifestyle. A total of 75 diabetics participated in the programme.
