Mangaluru, Jan 18, 2018: Addressing media in Mangaluru, Karnataka Wrestling Association president M Sureshchandra Shetty said Dakshina Kannada district Amateur Wrestling Association, in association with New Mangalore Port Staff Association, will organise a district-level wrestling tournament for men and women at Panambur beach on Sunday, January 21.

The tournament is being held in the memory of his father film artiste, former MLA and freedom fighter late M Lokaiah Shetty. This year is the 15th year of the tournament, he said.  The tournament will be inaugurated by Mangalore North MLA B A Mohiyuddin Bava at Panambur beach on Sunday, January 21 at 10 am. NMPT Chairman in-charge Suresh P Shirwadkar will preside.

The selection of male participants will be done at Srinivasa Mallya Indoor Stadium on January 20 from 3 pm to 5 pm. Selection of female participants will be done at Panambur beach on January 21 from 8 am to 9 am.  The wrestling matches will start from 9 am and will conclude by 6 pm.

Men’s wrestling matches will be held in 36, 42, 46, 57, 65, 74, 86 and above 86 kg body weight categories. Women’s wrestling matches will be held in 48,53, 58, 63 and 69 kg body weight categories.

Winners will be awarded a certificate, medal, plaque and cash prize during the valedictory programme at 6.30 pm.

NMPT staff association legal advisor K M Paul, senior wrestler Navin Karkera, DK district Amateur Kabaddi Association General Secretary Purushottama Poojary and Konaje police station SI Ravi Pawar will be felicitated on the occasion, Sureshchandra Shetty said.

District Amateur Wrestling Association President Prakash V Karkera, vice president Sathish Rao, Unorganised Workers Social Security Council member Muhammed Rafi and NMPT Staff Association working president Ramesh Poojary were present at the press meet.
