District administration/MCC not prepared for artificial flooding

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 16: The heavy rainfall of the past two days created artificial flooding in several areas of the city. Although the district administration and the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) had assured that they were completely prepared to handle the issues of artificial flooding in the city, it turned out that they were hardly prepared to handle the emergency of artificial flooding.

A car service centre in Ujjody was flooded as well as several scrap shops owing to blocked storm water drains. The MCC’s repair work has not fixed the problem. The tiles of the Government Primary School in Mahakalipadpu have been blown away. A tree fell across the shed, crushing it completely. The damage is yet to be assessed.

Water rushed into several houses and shops at Kottara Chowki because of the half constructed flyover. Jeppinamogaru also witnessed severe artificial flooding.

Heavy rainfall is expected in several areas of Coastal Karnataka as well as the Ghat areas within the next two days.
