Kasargod Chinna the film and theatre artiste inaugurated the event and said that 28 districts are observing the World Theatre Day. Proclaiming that he does not belong to any caste, Kasargod Chinna said that he was proud to say this as a theatre artiste. Although many people adopt stories and characters from English novels and translate them in different languages, one must not forget one’s own culture and adopt foreign culture, he cautioned.

Ramachandra Baikampady, the president of the Konkani Samskruthika Sangha, said in his inaugural address that, owing to privatization and modernization, theatre has lost its culture. The Tulu theatre has a century-old history, he said and added that the plays of Vijay Kumar Kodialbail and Devdas Kapikad created a revolution in Tulu drama.

Deepali Kambadakone, the member of Karnataka Nataka Academy, and T G Nasimhamurthy, the registrar of Karnataka Nataka Academy, were also present during the occasion.
