Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 26: The Contract carriage buses have stopped its service to different routes in the district, since three days, as the transport department has started to impose heavy fines on Contract carriage buses after the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Mazdoor Union staged a protest against the running of bus in the district.

The same union has put pressure on the government to pass a decision to stop the service of contract carriage bus in the city to different places. The contract carriage busses were providing a comfortable, timely and convenient transport facility to commuters. Now the transport department has changed its stance and began to raid the contract carriage buses, which were running after the protest also.

From the beginning
The common route of contract carriage buses are State Bank to Uppinangady, Subramanaya, Sulliya, Vittal and Puttur. It has started its service between these routes, since five years. Since then KSRTC workers were resisting contract carriage bus services. Their first complaint is that, these buses can run from State Bank to the end of destination. They cannot be run as stage carriages with passenger pick up and drop facility in between. Secondly, lesser fare has been charged with commuters when compare to KSRTC. But it is affecting on the revenue of the government buses, they rued.

Public referendum
These buses are running timely, when compare to KSRTC said one of the commuters, who used to travel in the contract carriage bus daily. Further he added that, they also provide convenient and comfortable service to passengers. So they need contract bus service to be on.
