Congress promises to support arecanut growers

Mangalore, March 29: The leaders of the district Congress have accused the state government of having betrayed arecanut growers by fixing the support price of arecanut at Rs 75. 

President of Puttur Block Congress Kavu Hemanatha Shetty and President of Vittala Block Congress M S Mohammed said that the state government has no concern for the welfare of arecanut growers and no time to resolve their issues. 

The Congress leaders said that they fully support the cause of arecanut growers, adding that a protest will be held on March 29. They urged arecanut growers to set aside all other issues and fight in unity for their rights. 

Shaba Palthadi, the general secretary of the District Minority Unit, was also present for the press conference.
