Coastal villages feel the adverse effects of sea erosion

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jun 14: The little coastal town of Ullal has already begun experiencing the adverse effects of sea erosion, owing to the intensifying monsoons.

The Arabian Sea has become very rough because of heavy rains that have been lashing the district for nearly a week. Sea erosion has been reported in areas such as Mukkacheri, Kotepura, and others. Many houses by the sea are in danger of being washed away.

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that the problem of sea erosion will be permanently solved once the state cabinet approves the release of Rs 223 crore of the required funds for the first phase of the sea erosion prevention project. But the work will commence only in November, he said.
