Child rights event “Kiru Thene” organized in St Aloysius College

Mangalore, Feb 27: An event for students from standards IV to IX, “Kiru Thene - Unleashing Children’s Creativity,” was held at the Eric Mathias Hall of St Aloysius College on Feb 26, Friday. Amritha B and Anzil Fernandes of St Aloysius College organized this event in collaboration with NGO Padi.

The event including a movie screening followed by a workshop in which 95 students from 8 schools in and around Mangalore participated. Margaret D Abreao, the president of Padi, various representatives of Padi, and teachers of the participating schools were also present.

Geo D’Silva, former member of the Child Wefare Committee, DK, who is also a poet, a cine artist, and dramatist, was the chief guest of the event. Fr. Walter, the finance minister of St Aloysius College, and Mr. Vishal Nayak, the coordinator of the event, were also the chief guests. 

The purpose of Kiru Thene was to enhance students’ awareness of children’s rights. The movie that was screened at the beginning of the workshop was based on child rights. A discussion and interaction session followed the movie screening. A unique compeition, in which the students were asked to describe child rights in just one word, was organized.

The children were also given the opportunity to showcase their talents though various drawing, painting, collages, poetry, and essay events. The work was displayed at 4 p.m. for public viewing. Padi will publish the students’ essays and poems in its magazine. 

Facilities such as food, transport, and so on were provided to the students.
