Mangalore, Aug 02, 2014:  District-wide protest rallies are being  staged demanding the beedi company owners to pay Rs 21.15 as dearness allowance every month.  Addressing a rally organised by S K Beedi Workers’ Federation (AITUC) in front of Telephone Beedi Company at Farangipet on July 29,  CPI(M) district Secretary P Sanjeeva has flayed the beedi manufacturing companies for inordinate delay to pay the Govt.

approved dearness allowance to beedi workers and has demanded the amount be paid along with arrears from April 2014.

 The CPI(M) leader alleged the beedi company owners of  delay tactics, but not taking a decision on the payment of dearness allowance. Despite knowing that the anti-industrial policy of the government is the reason for the low production of beedis, the company owners are not raising their voice against the government, but are victimising poor workers.

Therefore, the beedi company owners should pay the dues and dearness allowance without deducting the salary, he demanded. SK Beedi Workers Federation General Secretary V Seetharam Berinja, AITUC district President V Kukian and others were present among a strong contingent of suffering workers .
