Bundh to intensify demands for creation of Mulki Taluk

Mangalore Today News

Mulki, Dec 28: Mulki Taluk Mattu Nyayalaya Horata Samithi has called for a Mulki bundh on Dec 29, during which a road block will also be organized, to intensify the demands of the people of Mulki for a taluk status.

Harikrishna Punaroor, the president of the Horata Simithi, said during a press conference, that the people of Mulki have been demanding the creation of Mulki Taluk for a nearly 30 years; and this demand has been consistently ignored by the political parties. The government’s recent plans to create a new Mulki Hobli in Paduva Moodabidri Taluk has enraged the people, he said.

He said that Mulki is an important coastal centre, which once had a port and a court along with excite, PWD, and customs office. Now, everything has been withdrawn from Mulki.

Various taluk reorganization committees have approved the proposal for the creation of Mulky Taluk. A report to this effect had also been submitted to the government, which had chosen to ignore it, informed Mr. Punaroor.

If a Mulky Hobli is included in Moodbidri Taluk, the people will have to go to Moodabidri instead of Mangalore for any necessary work. He said that, for all these reasons, the creation of a Moodabidri Taluk is an unscientific act.
