KMC Forensic Medicine department State Medicolegal Consultant, Dr B Suresh Kumar Shetty, stated that investigation officers should personally visit the crime spot to collect evidence that the criminal may have left after committing the crime.

Following certain guidelines while inspecting the crime spot and developing a questioning attitude, can help the police to get good leads in the case

He went to say  allowing people to enter the crime scene would end up destroying the evidences. Therefore, police must take all caution and prohibit the entry of people to the crime scene. A cloth piece, hair, blood stain, saliva, finger print can be a strong evidence to get the culprit punished.

A blood stain can help to detect a lot of information including the age and sex of the offender and the time at which the offence took place, he said.   The police officers should write a note about all the information pooled at the crime scene. It will come to a great help in the court,” he said.He also stressed on the precautionary measures to be taken by the investigation officer while inspecting the crime scene.

The investigators should give priority to personal safety to avoid any infection to diseases at crime spot.  The police should avoid consuming food at crime spot, he suggested. Utmost care and professional caution is compulsory the expert said.
