BakibabMangalore, June 10:  Centenary of great Konkani poet Bakibab Borkar is being observed this year, there are ongoing programmes at various places of Konkani World. In this connection Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation along with Kavita Trust, Mangalore organizing “Bakibab Shatabdi Smaran” a day long programme which includes a Seminar, a Kavi Sammelan, Release of Kannada Translation of Bakibab’s select Poems and Bakibab Kavita Sangeeth Suvalo where musical renditions on Bakibab’s select poems will be presented.


Eminent Konkani Poet and Goa Liberation Movement Leader Shri Nagesh Karmali will inaugurate the function in the morning at 10.00 am followed by a Seminar on themes pertaining to Bakibab’s poetry. Eminent Konkani writers and critiques like Shri Rajay Pawar and Shri Bhooshan Bhave will present their views. The Seminar will be moderated by Prof. Narayan B. Desai, Canacona, Goa


Kavi Sammelan which is a prominent part of this day long program will host poets like Smt. Shakuntala Kini, Shri Rajay Pawar, Shri Andrew L. D’Cunha, Ms. Wilma Bantwal, Shri Venkatesh Nayak, Shri Jerri Rasquinha and Shri S.N.Bhat Saipangallu. and moderated by eminent Konkani Poet and Critique H.M. Pernal. 


Second session in the afternoon at 3.30 p.m. is for Kannada Audience wherein Eminent Kannada Poet Shri H. Dundiraj will release “Noopura” a Book of Bakibab’s select poems translated in Kannada by Smt. Shakuntala Kini. Shri U.K. Kumaranath, resident editor, Vijay Karnataka will be the guest of honour.


The day long programme will be concluded with befitting musical tributes to the great Konkani poet at 5.00 p.m. in “Bakibab Kavita Sangeet Suvalo” under the direction of eminent musician Ustad Rafique Khan. Eminent singers Smt. Vasanti .R. Shenoy Udupi, Shri Muralidhar Shenoy Kochi, Shri Ravindra Prabhu Mulki, Ms. Divya Sujeer and Ms. Deeksha Sujeer will render popular poems of Bakibab with musical accompaniment.
