Annual Feast of Infant Jesus celebrated in Madanthyar

Mangalore, Jan 30: The annual feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated on Jan 28 at Asha Deepa in Madanthyar. The festive mass was held at 5:30 p.m. Rev Fr James D’Souza was the main celebrant of this festive mass in which 25 priests concelebrated. 

Rev Fr Stephen Pereira OCD spoke about greatness of devotion to Infant Jesus. He said that the Carmelites arrived in Mangalore more than 50 years ago and introduced the devotion of Infant Jesus. Today, the devotion has spread all over the diocese. 

He also said that Jesus is the high priest and everybody has a share in the priesthood of Jesus. The best way to celebrate the Year of Priests is to be faithful to one’s calling, he advised. 

Fr. Patrick Lobo, the superior of the Carmelite community at Madanthyar thanked the sponsors and all the devotees who had gathered to celebrate the feast of Infant Jesus. 

Asha Deepa, the Carmelite monastery, was founded in 1986. The monastery also serves as a formation house for spiritual aspirants.
