Mangaluru, May 31, 2016: Speaking at the inauguration of the staff quarters of Customs Commissionerate, Mangaluru, on May 30, Monday, Chief Commissioner, Customs Commissionerate, Bengaluru zone, Rajiv Bhushan Tiwari  said that there was an old warehouse; a century-old Customs office in the old port will be developed to have a new office and a warehouse.

They will develop the building and have a new office and warehouse. The immediate priority was building compound wall for the old building that will be completed in three months, he said. Chief Commissioner  Tiwari said that the Customs Commissionerate, Mangaluru, had began the process to digitalise records related to vast tracts of their lands along the coast.

He said that emphasis was being given to strengthen infrastructure which, he said, was their weakest link. Land has been allotted in Mysuru for construction of residential and office accommodation.  They have sought land for building range office in Mandya, he said. There are as many as 72 quarters in the six separate blocks of the residential complex located off the Bikarnakatte-Shakti Nagar road. R.K. Soni, Chief Engineer, South Zone-3, Central Public Works Department, said due to non-availability of funds and other reasons it took nearly five years to complete the construction work.

Inaugurating the new staff quarters complex, Vanaja N. Sarna, the member of Central Board of Excise and Customs, asked those occupying the new quarters to maintain premises in good condition. She also asked the CPWD to assist Customs and Central Excise department in maintenance of residential quarters.  Commissioner, Customs, Central, M. Subramanyam was also present.
