Amruth Someshwar and Kargi Nalike honored with awards

Mangalore, March 30: The Bannanje Babu Amin Janapada Prashasthi was conferred on Amruth Someshwar, the prominent folk scholar, and Kargi Nalike, the Paddana singer, for their life-time achievements during a function organized for the same on March 28, Sunday. The award, which has been instituted by Kemmalaje Janapada Prakashana, comprises a citation, a memento, and a cash reward of Rs 10,000. 


Home Minister V S Acharya, who conferred the awards, said that the state government is promoting Tulu, which will be introduced as an optional third language from the sixth standard in the schools of DK and Udupi from 2010 - 11. He also said that, having realized the importance of culture, the state government has allocated Rs 180 crore for the Department of Kannada and Culture. 


Dr. Acharya released “Tulunadu Daivagalu - Samskritika Vishleshane,” a book authored by Mr. Bannanje Babu Amin. 


Kudi Vasanth Shetty, the folk expert, and MLA Raghupathi Bhat, were also present.
