Udupi, July 20, 2014: Speaking in the wake of  inaugurating district vector borne disease control month organised by the Zilla Panchayat, health and family welfare department, district vector borne disease control unit, Rotary district 3180, Innerwheel club, at Olakadu Composite Government High School on Udupi July 19, District-in-Charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake said  the urban development department will release special funds to set up waste management unit on 10 acre land in all the city corporations and in Udupi too.  Advising that there is an urgent need to maintain hygiene  to check spread of diseases. Garbage should be disposed off scientifically to maintain sterile conditions. The authorities should give priority to segregate all waste at the source it self.  The waste should be converted into energy as well, he stated.

The Minister said that using technology, garbage will be disposed scientifically. With correct awareness created by the NGOs, initiated by the authorities, malaria and dengue cases are on the decline in the district, he said.

MLA Pramod Madhwaraj has said that segregation of waste is currently very important. District vector borne disease control Officer Dr Ashok said that due to migrant labourer, malaria and dengue are spread in the district. ZP CEO Kanagavalli has ensured that awareness is created in all the 146 gram panchayats.

 Sthree shakthi :  At another programme  to distribute awards to meritorious students for the children of Sthree Shakthi members, the Minister said that the government is committed to empower women. Speaking at the felicitation organised by the Sthree Shakthi Sangagala Okkuta and Rotary Mid Town, he said that anganwdi institutions were developed for the integrated development of women by supplying nutritious food for the pregnant women and adolescent girls. There is a shortage of staff in women and child welfare department. The government will take measures to solve the problems. ZP President Upendra Nayak was present along with others.
