Mangalore, June 18: The Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy organized a discussion on the impact of globalization on Beary language at the Academy office on June 18, Friday. B. Chandrahasa Rai, the registrar of the academy, inaugurated the event and spoke on the dangers of globalization and its adverse effects on all regional languages and cultures, including the Beary language. The impact of globalization can be observed not only on language, but also on culture, traditions, customs, and mentality, he added.

Ismath Phajeer presented a comprehensive essay on the topic; and this was followed by a long discussion. Phajeer pointed out that several local languages such as Koraga and its accompanying culture has been terminated by globalization. Mental slavery that results from advocating globalization acts as a catalyst for the destruction of local languages and cultures, he said.

Member of the Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy Abdul Azeez Baikampady presided over the programme. Corporator Azeez Kudroli was the chief guest of the occasion. Journalist Hamza Malar was the comperer.
