6 food parks will be established: R Suresh




Mangalore, April 8: The Food Processing Department organized a press conference at the Zilla Panchayat office, Mangalore on April 7, Wednesday. Principal Secretary to the Government, Food Processing and Harvest Technology, Government of Karnataka R Suresh, IAS, was present during the press conference. 


Mr. R Suresh revealed the Food Processing Department’s plans to improve the quality of processed food by establishing 6 food parks in Tumkur, Bangalore Rural, Davanagere, Shimoga, Bijapur, and Belgaum as per the State Budget 2009 – 10. Referring to Spice Food Park at Byadagi and the Mega Food Park at Chikamagalur, which cost around Rs 50 crore, he said that these food parks will generate the revenue required to modernize street food outlets, construction of abattoirs, and other projects. 


He informed press people that the government has earmarked a sum of Rs 10 crore for the development of the Food Processing Corporation. He said that he had cancelled a major meeting, which was scheduled to take place today, because the CEO and the Deputy Commission (DC) were absent.
