Mangaluru, Dec 01, 2018: The Mangaluru Rural Police on Friday seized 25 lorry loads of sand that was reportedly extracted illegally from the Netravathi riverbed in Adyar here.

According to a press release, a team comprising personnel from Mangaluru Rural Police Station and South Sub Division Anti Rowdy Squad raided the place, behind Sahyadri Engineering College.

The team reportedly found 17 boats involved in illegal extraction of sand. Nearly 25 lorry loads of sand was dumped at different points on the river bank. Labour involved in extraction of sand fled as the police raided the place.

The police seized the sand and boats. The case was handed over to the Mines and Geology Department for further investigation.
