2-day state level polytechnic sports meet inaugurated

Mangalore, March 27: Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) organized a state-level polytechnic sports meet at the Mangala Sadium on March 27, Saturday. The athletes of all participating colleges carried out a march past; and District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar received the guard of honor. B Vijaya Kumar, the principal of KPT, made the welcome speech. Chairman of Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Dr. Madhava Bhandary hoisted the flag and inaugurated the event. 

A minute’s silence was observed in honor of Maruthi, an athlete of Government Polytechnic Kushtagi who died in an accident near Manipal on his way to participate in the event. Krishna J Palemar assured that he will convey a government relief fund to the family of Maruthi and also personally donate Rs 25,000. 

Speaking about the government’s achievements in the fields of sports and education, the minister said that government has sanctioned a fund of Rs 8 lakh to the sports department as well as a total of Rs 7 lakh for the construction of a sports facility. 

About 60 polytechnic colleges from all over the state are participating in this 2-day sports event. 

MLA U T Khader, Director of Technical Education H U Thalawar, Assistant Directors N D Prasad and Anand Poojary, and C R Krishnamoorthy of Technical Education, Bangalore, were present during the occasion.
