18-hole Golf Course, Aquamarine Park to be established in Tannirbhavi

Mangalore, Mar 7: KSIIDC Chairman Yogish Bhat said that the proposed 18-hole golf course at Thannirbhavi and Aquamarine Park is close to the bidding stage during an interaction programme organized by the DK District Working Journalists’ Association at Patrika Bhavan on Saturday. 

Golf Course

Bidding will begin in 4 months, he said, adding that the Revenue Department has already acquired about 135 acres of land and given it to the Tourism Department. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 106 crore and will include an 18-hole golf course, a golf club, and a golf resort of 150 rooms. 

The chairman said that the KSIIDC has taken all the required steps to get the CRZ nod from the state. Initial studies have already been completed. The bidder will have to take the CRZ clearance from the Centre along with the detailed report of the project. 

Aquamarine Park

The chairman also said that 20 acres in Tannirbhavi have been set aside for the Aquamarine Park. The Karnataka State Coastal Zone Management Authority (KSCZMA) and the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) are yet to approve the project, whose estimated cost is Rs 250 crore. 

He informed press people that the master plan and project study of the project has already been done. The park is to have an oceanarium, a dolphinarium, a penguin pool, marine museum and science centre, mini aquarium, fish breeding centre, biome-botanical garden, Mariana trench, mangrove lagoon, tropical nature trail, a movie theatre, a gaming zone, a library, a waterfront beach, kiosks, and restaurants, said G L Jere, the executive director. 

Mangala Corniche

Another proposed project is Mangala Corniche, a 31 km ring road, which will be executed by forming a special purpose vehicle in five phases. The project’s feasibility report is ready. The KSIIDC and the Coastal Development Authority will prepare an integrated report of it. Bhat said that the Corporation is trying to prepare a project report by June so that it can be presented before the Global Investors meet. 

He said that KSIIDC - IL&FS Project Development Company Limited (KIPDC) has undertaken 23 projects. The company has plans to develop modern abattoirs in 49 urban local bodies across the state. An MoU has already been signed. The company is also developing a continuous water supply scheme in 16 towns, said the chairman. 

Vanditha Sharma, the managing director of KSIIDC, was also present.
