Mangaluru, Jan 12 2019: Speaking to media on January 11, Friday, NITK Alumni Association General Secretary Chandrakanth Rao said the organisers had received registration of over 2,000 enthusiastic runners.The students of National Institute of Technology Karnataka-Surathkal and NITK Alumni Association will jointly organise ‘NITK Karavali Marathon’ on January 13, Sunday.
The event comprises 42.2-km Marathon, 21.1-km Half Marathon, 10-km, 5-km and 3-km run.
The run is being organised to create awareness on ‘Save the Oceans’ and ‘Run for Unity’ and to promote healthy lifestyle amongst youth. Former sprint queen P T Usha will be the brand ambassador of the event.
The marathon route, includes the service road from NITK-Surathkal to the junction near Govinda Dasa College, one side of the NH-66 from Govinda Dasa College to Tannirbhavi Junction and the beach road from Sadashiva Temple to NITK beach gate. There will be traffic diversion along the above-mentioned route on one side from 5 am to 11 am.
For the first time, full marathon of 42.2 km is being introduced. The unique feature of the run is that the part of marathon trail is on the scenic NITK Surathkal beach, along a beach side Sadashiva Temple and a Lighthouse.
The event is open for men, women and children above 10 years.
The winners will get a total prize money of Rs 2.77 lakh. Participants will get T-shirts, timing certificate, immediate results via SMS, physio support for recovery, food and entertainment.
Gen Activities : NITK Alumni Association will also organise training for the NITK students to enter civil services, defence and postgraduation programme.
