Mangalore to receive potable water from Kudremukh

Mangalore Today News Network

water_pipeline...July, 28: The state government and the Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. have reached an agreement according to which Mangalore, Suratkal, and neighboring areas will receive drinking water from Kudremukh. The consensus was reached after a discussion between Home Minister V. S. Acharya and the top officials of KIOCL and the Union Ministry of Mines.

The KIOCL pipeline, which now serves the purpose of carrying iron ore slurry, will soon be used to transport potable water. The water will be taken from Lakhya dam, which is built across River Lakhya, a tributary of River Bhadra. The home minister told reporters that the pipeline can supply a maximum of four million gallons of water per day.

KIOCL also plans to develop the area as an eco-tourism hub for schoolchildren and tourists and the entrance fees will be used to maintain the place.

A police commando training unit will also be set up at Kudremukh, and the commandos trained there will be deployed to curb naxal activities in Shimoga, DK, Udupi, Hassan, and Chikamagalur.

Despite mangalore having such good rains if we have to resort to such measures means that there are some lop holes and there is wastage of water.

This was a vision suggested by Late S. A. Hussain. The Government as usual took long years to understand this. It is not just government, we all take long time to understant new things. We never support when it requires and the same we queues up to pour support when it is unwarranted. Gram Swaraj of Mahatma Gandhi is one such idea http://www.gramswaraj.in Let us change our mindset... Accept if we do not understand things... Appreciate those who present new things.
