AI organizes condolence meeting in honor of plane crash victims

Mangalore, July 27:  Air India paid its respects to the victims of the Mangalore plane crash of May 22 at TMA Pai Convention Hall on July 27, Thursday. Aravind Jadhav, the chief managing director of AI, said that constructing a memorial at the site of the plane crash and paying their respects to the souls of the departed was the least that the national carrier could do.

 

Mangalore, July 27: A memorial was installed for the 158 victims of the Mangalore plane crash of May 22 on July 27, Tuesday at Kenjar in Bajpe. The memorial was unveiled by M. M. Nambiar, the civil aviation secretary. The names of the cabin crew and the passengers have been inscribed separately on the slabs. Aravind Jadhav, the managing director of AI, said that the installing a memorial at the site of the crash was the least they could do to pay homage to the departed souls of the plane crash victims. The memorial will also serve as a reminder of the bitter lessons learned from the tragedy, he said. M. R. Vasudev, the director of Mangalore International Airport; Chellam Prasad, the station manager of AI; the staff of AI; and the family members, friends, and relatives of the plane crash victims placed floral tributes at the memorial.

Secretary of Civil Aviation Madhav Nambiar said that several rescue workers have worked hard without making any discrimination. He promised the families of the deceased full support with regard to rehabilitation and compensation.


Religious leaders such as B. K. Illias from the Muslim community, Prof. M. B. Puranik from the Hindu community, Jnanesh Singh from the Sikh community, Nirmal Kumar from the Jain community, and Fr. Dennis Rasquinha from the Christian community prayed for the souls of the departed.
