New Delhi, Aug 14, 2015: Dreaded gangster Bannanje Raja who was wanted in as many as 44 extortion as well as death threat cases in coastal districts as well as other parts of the nation, has been brought to India from Morocco. Bannanje Raja was apprehended at Casablanca on February 10, this year.
As many as six police officers including three from DK and Udupi accompanied Raja to India. It is learnt, the gangster is presently being interrogated in New Delhi. It is gathered that during initial interrogation, Bannanje Raja has revealed the names of three police officials from Mangaluru and Bengaluru who were abetting his crimes in his home state.
There is also information that Raja’s wife Sona Hemanth Hegde too may be returning to India to assist her husband in securing legal help. Meanwhile, sources say there was a possibility of the police even detaining her.
It is not yet clear as to when he would be brought to Karnataka. It is believed that the special interest shown by Indian authorities had helped in getting Bannanje Raja back to India despite there being no extradition treaty between Morocco and India.
