Dakshina Kannada records single biggest spike of 183 Covid-19 cases, Udupi 31

Mangaluru, July 8, 2020: Dakshina Kannada district recorded its biggest one-day spike of 183 Covid-19 positive cases and three persons have succumbed to Coronavirus infection on wednesday, June 8. Udupi on the other hand recorded 31 positive cases.

Those who lost their battle with Covid-19 are a  62  year old woman from Ullal, a 32 year old woman from Puttur and a 60 year old man from Bhatkal. The man from Bhatkal died at a private hospital while the two women succumbed at Wenlock Covid Hospital. All the three were battling other illnesses along with Covid-19.

Two of the 183 cases were secondary contacts, 25 were cases of influenza like illness, four cases of SARI, one case of inter district travel, two with interstate travel, five with international travel history, 22 random samples and five pre-surgery samples.

 

The gunman assigned to former minister U T Khader tested positive on the day and three others who were with him in the escort vehicle have been quarantined, Vikash Kumar Vikash, city police commissioner, said.


With this the total Covid 19 positive cases in the DK district rose to 1542. As many as 695 persons have been discharged and 29 deaths have occurred so far.

Udupi district has reported 31 fresh cases on Wednesday. Now, the Udupi district has a total of 1,421 cases with 229 still being treated at the designated hospitals. 1,189 patients recovered and discharged including 20 discharges today. The district has reported three COVID-19 fatality.
