Mangaluru, Sep 05 2018: Teachers play a supportive role in nation building activities by moulding their students into responsible citizens of the land, said MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
Speaking after inaugurating the Teachers Day celebrations held at the St Aloysius High School Auditorium under the joint aegis of the DK ZP, Public Education Department and Teachers Day Celebrations Committee, he said to be a teacher in India is not just a profession but a penance. India has always treated teachers with utmost reverence, he said.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath and MLC Ivan D’Souza were present as chief guests.
Aloysius D’Souza, President of High School Headmasters’ Association, Harish Kumar, President of Taluk Physical Instructors Association, Chanchalakshi, President of Primary School Teachers Association, Block Education Officer Manjula and others were present.
Prof Vijaya Kumari, Head of the Department of Mathematics of Vijaya College, Mulki who was the resource person said teachers have the responsibility of shaping students as disciplined citizens and future leaders.
Children of teachers who scored above 95 per cent marks in SSLC and PUC exams were felicitated. Students presented cultural programmes while teachers from Mangaluru North Zone presented a Talamaddale.
