Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Prithveesh K., a student of fifth semester at SDM College of Technology, Ujire, said that learning to solve the cube helped students in many ways. It improved memory power, concentration levels and brain-hand-eye coordination.

While students and children in urban areas knew about Rubik’s Cube, this did not appear to be the case in rural areas. Hence, he had decided to popularise it in rural areas by holding free workshops.

Already he had held workshops in Cherkady, Jayapura near Sringeri and Ujire. “I want to hold free workshops in schools and colleges in rural areas,” he said.

Mr. Prithveesh, who hails from Cherkady village in Udupi district, has also written a booklet in English titled “Rubik Magic.” This booklet provides some solutions to easily solving the Rubik’s Cube.

He got to know about Rubik’s Cube eight months ago, but started seriously practising it in the last six months. He practised it daily for an hour.

He stood third in a State-level competition in solving the Rubik Cube held in Mangaluru recently.
