Youth Congress decries HC stay on JNNURM buses in Udupi

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, July 7,2017: Reports say that Udupi district Youth Congress has strongly condemned the high court stay order brought by the Private Bus Owners’ Association against the plying of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses in the district.

Speaking at a protest rally organised here on July 6, Thursday, Congress leader Amrith Shenoy charged that the decision by the private bus operators, who are backed by BJP, has done injustice to the poor students who get a huge concession by public transport. The district in-charge minister was responsible for the introduction of JNNURM buses without taking the pressure by the private bus owners into consideration, he claimed.

He charged that the previous administration had limited itself to announce programmes, but did not release sufficient funds. After the Congress took over, the first attempt made by the government is to ensure better governance which is pro-poor and people-friendly to all irrespective caste and religion.

Shenoy alleged that BJP cannot tolerate the fame of the present district in-charge minister who has committed himself for people’s people. It is he who brought the JNNRUM buses for poor students’ and to the remote areas where the people struggle to get vehicles. The public transport offers people-friendly service as against the service offered by the private buses. The private bus drivers and conductors negligently discharge their duties which also end up in tragedies, he claimed.

He questioned why the BJP is mum over the action of its own leader Suresh Nayak, who is also the president of Private Bus Owners’ Association, who is responsible for the stay order against the plying of JNNRUM buses.
