Mangaluru, Oct 15, 2015 : It is note worthy that many prominent people in the region are voicing their displeasure over the Yettinahole project. Prasanna, theatre personality, has criticised the State government for taking up the Yettinahole project, which, according to him, will be harmful to the environment of Western Ghats. Also government is spending a huge amount in the name of Yettinahole project, which should be stopped he said on Oct 13.
Prasanna was speaking at the inaugural of a three-day workshop for young writers on understanding environment, organised by the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi. Prasanna, is leading a campaign to spread awareness on sustainable development, said that diverting the river’s flow or constructing unnecessary roads and indulging such acts had resulted in the decline in rainfall, besides causing climatic change.
It is witnessed that untimely rain is the result because of our deeds against the nature. Terming Yettinahole project a waste, Prasanna said that politicians were wasting money and time in the name of such projects.
Politicians are promising what they cannot deliver. As a result, honest officials are forced to ruin nature for implementing the project. Senior journalist Nagesh Hegde, who is the director of the workshop, in his preliminary remarks, stressed the need for spreading awareness on conservation of nature for future generations. Malathi Pattanashetty, president of the academy, said that the activities of the academy were not limited to literature.
Environment too is our concern. The academy has organised the workshop to respond to issues that are currently disturbing environment.
