Mangaluru, Apr 24, 2019: Environmentalists and nature lovers of Mangaluru have urged the ministers and elected representatives of the district to stage a dharna in the well of the House demanding to drop the controversial Yettinahole Project. Pointing out that the district itself was facing water crisis they questioned how parched lands can be supplied water as part of Yettinahole Project when the district itself is facing water shortage.
Addressing a press meet jointly convened by the Sahyadri Samrakshana Sanchaya and National Parisara Samrakshana Okkoota, President of the Okkoota Shashidhar Shetty warned that a black flag demonstration would be held against all elected representatives of the district if they fail to prevail upon the government to drop the Yettinahole Project.
Pointing out that DK District was declared drought hit last year, he urged the elected representatives to behave responsibly instead of resorting to political mud slinging.
Noted environmentalist Dinesh Holla of Sahyadri Sanchaya who also spoke said no candidate of the district have made their stance clear on Yettinahole Project. He also pointed out how water from Hemavathi river was brought during night time last year when there was no water in Yettinahole to execute the work.
He said though permission has been granted to set up hydel projects in 26 places, many projects have failed for want of water. Such projects are nothing but an assault on nature and waste of tax payers’ money, he alleged.
