Kundapur, Feb 18,2016: Yet another farmer in Kundapur taluk has ended his life, the third such case in the recent times. On February 17, Wednesday, Heriya Naik (48), a resident of Iyangar in Kerady of Kollur reportedly ended his life by consuming pesticide. It is learnt he was depressed as he was not in a position to clear the loans which he had availed from banks.
The farmer owned nearly 2.3 acres land and cultivated several crops there. According to sources, he had availed Rs 2 lakhs loan from the Vandse branch of Syndicate Bank and Rs 1.5 lakh from Vandse Agricultural Co-operative Society apart from borrowing from money lenders. His total outstanding dues stood at Rs 4.5 lakhs, said sources. The farmer had two sons and two daughters. One of his sons had died last year.
Local MLA Gopal Poojary has visited the residence of the deceased farmer and consoled his grieving family. Stating that the government was pro-farmer, he urged farmers to refrain from committing suicide as it cannot solve any of their problems.
Just last week, a farmer named Joseph of Jadkal had ended his life in a similar way.
How sad? The state as to look forward to provide the compensation to the family of the deceased and avoid such incidents in the future.
The State Government has never made any attempt on the solve the debts of the farmers. They are called the back bone but genuinely they are helpless.
Our Ministers promise the people but the problems faced by them they only have to suffer. Hew sad he lost his son and now he himself. There are so many families of the farmers facing the same but no one care s about it.
