Mangaluru, Feb 06, 2018: Doctors at the Yenepoya Speciality Hospital by performing a successful total hip replacement surgery have given a new lease of life to a 28 year old youth from Kadaba in Puttur who was suffering from a rare disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis and was bed-ridden for eight years.
Speaking to reporters here, Dr Deepak Rai, Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon of the Hospital said the youth Jayanth is now leading a normal life and is able to walk.
Giving information about the case history of Jayanth, Dr Deepak said Ankylosing Spondylitis had affected his spine and joints leaving doctors with no other option but a hip replacement surgery. Doctors implanted artificial hips through Dual mobility Hip System. Both the hips were replaced in separate surgery and now post operation Deepak is able to stand and walk like normal human beings.
"Jayanth had developed pain in his leg when he was in first PUC. The pain used to recur and Jayanth was unable to walk after his II PUC exams and was completely dependent on his parents. The family had contacted Dr Deepak after almost eight years of treatment elsewhere which showed no positive result. The family has spent nearly Rs 6 lakh on Jayanth’s treatment. As the area where he lives was affected by Endosulfan menace, Jayanth has a card given by government to Endosulfan victims. Though he is entitled for monthly pension, no funds were received for his surgery," informs his brother Gangadhar.
Dr Mohammad Tahir, Medical Director of the Hospital, was also present.
