Yakshagana week at Mangaladevi from Sunday

Mangaluru, Oct 21, 2015:  A feast of Yakshagana awaits admirers in the city for a week from October 25. The host, Sri Krishna Yaksha Sabha, will organise its annual Yakshagana Sapthaha this year at the Mangaladevi temple at Bolara, due to lack of availability of Town Hall.

The sabha has been organising the annual event for the last 13 years during rainy season at the Town Hall. The shows will be performed from 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm every day. There will be free entry, according to Sudhakar Rao Pejavar, general secretarty of the sabha. The shows of both Tenku Thittu (southern school) and Badagu Thittu (northern school) will be performed.

The ‘prasangas’ scheduled in the order of days are Kumara Vijaya, Tamradhawaja Kalaga (both Tenku Thittu), Krishnarjuna (Badagu Thittu), Mairavana Kalaga, Sharasethu Bandhana – Subhadra Kalyana – Garuda Garvabhanga (Tenku Thittu), Sri Ramanjaneya (Badagu Thittu), Bharatagamana, Rukmini Swayamvara (Tenku Thittu).

Almost all well-known ‘bhagawathas’ like Balipa Narayana Bhagawatha, Padyana Ganapathi Bhat, Heranjalu Gopala Ganiga, Ramakrishna Mayya Siribagilu, Ravichandra Kannadikatte, Ragahavendra Mayya Haladi, Leelavathi Baipadithaya, Kumbanur Sridhar Rao will participate in it in the order of days.

Well-known artiste Kondadakuli Ramachandra Hegde, who is a member of Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, will play the character of Arjuna in the show Krishnarjuna on Tuesday.

Other noted actors like Jagadhabirama Padubidri, Subraya Holla Kasaragod , Mahabala Rai Nagri, Sampaje Sheenappa Rai, Puttur Sridhara Bhandary, Arodu Mohandas Shenoy, Shashikant Shetty Karkala, Divana Shivashankar Bhat, Mijar Thimmappa would participate.
