Mangaluru, May 20,2017: One of Tulunadu’s oldest and very revered art forms is all set to add a new dimension to its existence with an upcoming performance. An event, which is being hailed as one-of-its-kind, will soon see a reprisal of the life and times of Jesus Christ, as it will be enacted through the ancient art of Yakshagana.
Titled Mahachethana — Yesu Christa Mahathme , the work has been penned by veteran writer and playwright Muliya Keshavaiah. Having been in poetry form since it was written in the 1970s, Muliya’s creation has received a revamp in the form of dialogues that have now become a part of the narrative.
And this improved version of Yesu Christa Mahatme will be released on May 27 in the city, following which a performance of the same will also be staged.
The unique effort, says cultural aficionados in the city, will go on to showcase how Yakshagana dates back to centuries, has been constantly reinventing itself and staying relevant through the ages.
