World Sight Day marked, Self-vision screening chart inaugurated at Manipal

Manipal, Oct 14, 2016:  Reports say the  Department of Optometry, School of Allied Health Sciences celebrated World Sight Day on Oct 13,Thursday by inaugurating a self-vision screening chart sponsored by  that State Bank of India, Manipal branch. Dr Vinod Bhat, vice-chancellor, Manipal University who opened the chart for public vision testing suggested that the eye care professionals from the University should evolve a sustainable model aimed at creating a blindness free Udupi district.


self test The theme for this year proposed by The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness is Stronger together. World sight day is a yearly event focusing on universal eye health and prevention against blindness and vision impairment. As a part of WSD, department also conducted eye screening camps for almost 1000 people last month. Posters depicting eye awareness and simulations to manage daily activities by visually challenged people were also organized. Guests of honour on the occasion were Dr Poornima Baliga, dean, KMC, Manipal; Dr Krishna Rao, head of department of ophthalmology and Dr Rajashekar, dean, School of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal.
