Mangalore, Oct 30, 2014 : A hearing and speech impaired worker who was cleaning the safe locker of the premises of a co-operative bank branch which was getting ready for inaugural at a commercial complex at Shirthady, was accidentally locked up, causing a lot of tension on October 29, Wednesday.
It has been gathered that the worker named Ashfaq had entered the safe locker to clean it up. A brick was also placed in the opening to prevent the door from closing. It is learnt, some other worker who was unaware that Ashfaq was inside had removed the brick and closed the safe locker.
As workers went out of tea, Ashfaq realised that he was locked. In fact being a hearing impaired, he had not heard the sound of the door closing.
As workers returned from tea, they heard someone banging from inside and soon realised that Ashfaq was inside. A doctor was summoned and oxygen was supplied to Ashfaq through a small hole in the safe locker. The door was later opened after getting the keys from the Bank’s head office in Mangalore. Poor Ashfaq had to remain inside the safe lock for almost two hours for no fault of his.
