Work on Padil underpass to begin in November – DRM Piyush Agarwal

Mangalore, Jun 1, 2012 : Vijay Kumar Shetty, MCC member, said that Piyush Agarwal, divisional railway manager, promised to start work on Padil underpass by November 2012 after first finishing tender processes, land acquisition, and other formalities.

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Shetty was addressing reporters at a meeting of railway and MCC officials in the railway VIP lounge on May 29. The railway department had convened the meeting chiefly because of public anger when the Padil railway gate was opened after a long and needless delay on May 14.

Mr. Shetty also said that the public will launch an intense protest near the railway gate if the railway department fails to meet this deadline. He also promised that follow-up meetings will be held to review the progress of the project every month.

Around 60 MCC members were present at this meeting, during which it was concluded that the MCC or any other concerned authority will pay half the total cost of the project to the railway department. The department, in turn, will call for tenders in June or July. The work will begin a month or two after the tender process is completed. The Padil railway gate will be closed from the day the work on the underpass begins, and the MCC will provide a temporary road in the meantime.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the legislative assembly; MCC members Vijay Kumar Shetty, Mohan Padil, Dr. Annayya Kulal, Sudhir Shetty, Ahmed Bava, and B. M. Madhava were present at the meeting.
