Mangalore, Jan 10, 2014: Senior writer Padma Shenoy has said that women have been able to contribute significantly towards the literary field owing to good education levels, thanks to a change in the mindset of the society towards women.
She was speaking after inaugurating a two-day conference on women’s literature organised to commemorate the 110th birth anniversary of Kamaladevi Chattopadhyaya at Nehru Maidan in the city on January 9, Thursday. The conference was jointly organised by the National Book Trust, New Delhi, Konkani Bhasa ani Samskruti Pratistana, Mangalore, Karnataka Writers Association and Karavali Lekhakiyara mattu Vachakiyara Sangha.
Padma Shenoy also stressed the need for writers to work towards building a healthy society.
Another senior writer Prema Bhat also spoke on the occasion and regretted the fact that Western culture was having a bad impact on young minds who are also affected by the mobile phone culture.
Janaki Brahmavar and Dr Vasaundara Bhupati also spoke on the occasion. Dr Vasundhara released booksentitled Vaishaja Ule, Janara Kathegalu, Kashiyacho Petaro and Nanna Aduge authored by Padma Shenoy, Mumtaz Begum, Geetha Shnoy and Geetha Kini respectively.
