Mangaluru, March 28, 2016 : State Minister for women and Child Welfare and Kannada and Culture Umashree has informed that the government was planning to set up a Women’s Welfare Committee on the lines of the Child Welfare Committee.
The Minister who was in the city on March 27, Sunday to take part in the Devanga Conference, addressed y workers at the District Congress Office. She claimed that the Department of Kannada and Culture had utilized 98% of the grants provided by the government.
She also spoke about the Government plans to frame a Transgender Policy and also a policy aimed at empowering girls below 18 years of age.
She said the Women and Child Development Department has waived off loans amounting to Rs 11 crore given to women through various corporations and also spoke in length on various welfare initiatives.
Speaking about incentives, the Minister said the Department provides an incentive of Rs 50,000 to a person marrying a differently-abled woman while visually impaired women are given Rs 2000 per month in case they have children below two years.
The Minister also stated that as many as 30 districts have Special Treatment Cells for rape victims. She also warned of stern action against those resorting to child marriage.

Some woman take the advantage of the WWC. The attention has to be given towards both children and woman to the best of it. |
