Women have powers to change men’s outlook towards them: Vaidehi

Mangaluru, Feb 25,2015: Though women have achieved  accolades in various fields, women yet continue to be objects of lower orders in the eyes of men. Women have the power  to speak out and change the mind of a large number of men, which is getting spoiled, said writer Vaidehi.

Speaking at a function to mark the anniversary of monthly women’s magazine Anupama on Feb 24,  Writer Vaidehi said young and old women were becoming victims of assaults by men.

She stated,  “I do not like reading newspapers these days  filled with such news.”  Women were assaulted not because of the way they dress but because of the mind of men that was being uncontrolled. “We women are aiding (in distorting the minds) by allowing corporate bodies to show us in poor light,” she added.

Lady Writer Vaidehi said it was necessary for women to speak aloud their concerns. If one  does not muster the courage to ask questions,  further suppression in  the male dominant society will happen. Writer  Vaidehi said magazines like Anupama make people aware of concerns of women and giving space for women to make their feelings and problems known for solutions.

Commending the magazine for continuing to be the voice of women,  Vaidehi said this magazine, with more than  2 lakh readers , had succeeded in opening the eyes of men. “It is for the men to change the way they look at women. We women, with a motherly attitude, have always kept our eyes open,” she said. The special issue of the magazine that has articles, among others, about activist Irom C. Sharmila, who is on fast in Imphal against Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, and journalist Sandhya Pai was released.
