Woman ends life, family takes ill

Mangaluru, June 18,2016: As per reports, a woman committed suicide by consuming water mixed with poison in Karkala on June 17,Thursday night, while her husband and two children, who consumed it too, became sick and were rushed to hospital in Manipal.

According to the police, the woman, Gautami Nayak (35), was suffering from ill health for the last seven-eight years. Though she was taking medical treatment, she did not recover. Hence, she went into depression and consumed water mixed with poison between 9.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. She died on the way to hospital.

Gautami Nayak’s husband, Govindaraj Nayak, and their children, 11-year-old Sudarshan and seven-year-old Kartik, unknowingly drank the same water and fell sick. However, they started vomiting and this alerted the neighbours, the police said.  They were rushed to Kasturba Hospital in Manipal. A case was registered at the Karkala Town Police Station. Investigation is on, the police said.
